A Blade of Grass
I wish to be a blade of grass,
A solitary blade of grass,
Far from the crowded city,
Reveling in wilderness and remote outskirts.
I wish to be a blade of grass,
A resilient blade of grass,
Unfazed by thunder and lightning’s oppression,
Unafraid of rain’s drenching and wind’s howling.
I wish to be a blade of grass,
A joyful blade of grass,
Adding a fresh green hue to the world,
Or nourishing birds and beasts with my own body.
I wish to be a blade of grass,
A stubborn blade of grass,
Though mercilessly consumed by wildfire,
Even as ash, I still await the spring breeze’s arrival.
Perhaps,
One day at last,
I shall be uprooted entirely,
Yet my proud heart still laughs aloud.
For,
I have done what I love,
My wish fulfilled.
For,
The birds long ago scattered my seeds across the ends of the earth.
For,
Whether I turn to fertile soil or vanish as dust,
I never truly leave the embrace of Heaven and Earth—the Mother.
