Reflections on the River Tower
Alone upon the tower, I gaze across the endless river,
Where misty waves stretch far and wide, and water meets the sky.
Once we drank in joyous bliss along the willow-lined shore,
Now I mourn in solitude where wild geese descend.
Clouds swirl around lonely sails as travelers fade into the distance,
Waves lap at the ancient ferry while birds cry in the chill.
The green mountains know nothing of the sorrow of parting,
Yet still they cradle the fading sun to see off the departing boat.
